Fitness tips for weight loss

We had a chat with Inside Active gym’s manager Sonza Mdumisi to get some tips for weight loss. Sonza highlights that diet is vital in any person’s weight loss journey. He advises that those in their fitness journey should consume low-calorie filling foods and look for foods that contain adequate protein and fibre while pairing them with a good source of healthy fats. When fibre, protein, and fat are consumed together, you feel fuller for longer.
Varying your exercise regime by combining cardiovascular with strength training exercises delivers the best results for weight loss. Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity walking, running, stairs, swimming, or dancing at least five times a week and then gradually increase the intensity of your training.
Strength Training:
- Benefits: Builds muscle, which helps burn more calories even at rest.
- Frequency: Aim for at least 2 days of strength training per week.
Other Lifestyle Factors to Prioritise:
- Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours.
- Manage your stress through exercise.
- Be consistent in your gym routine.
- Mindful eating is crucial.
- Prioritise protein in your diet.
- Eat more fibre.
- Limit processed foods.
- Stay hydrated.
